Workshop details

From birth, play is the way children inquire and learn about the world around them. Participants will engage in a unique and enjoyable play workshop introducing self-active play sessions individually, in pairs and small groups that mirror the way children learn about the world - that is, by constructing knowledge from experience. Participants will gain insights into the teacher’s role in the learning process; the role reflection plays in children’s learning; develop their own reflective practice; construct new approaches to teaching. The following themes and how-to's are explored.

  • Time, space, materials and relationships in playful inquiry.
  • Political and cultural images of the child and the impact that has on the learning environment.
  • Play theorists and practical applications
  • Link to school curriculum
  • Benefits of play for children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional, language and literacy development.
  • How to bring playfulness to high school students
  • How play stimulates creativity in education.

Play empowers learners with the critical thinking and problem solving skills they need to lead in a world defined by change. It is not surprising leading experts in the field such as the LEGO Foundation  and the Institute of Play believe that learning through play can change the world.

Play is the answer to how anything new comes about.
